A mutual understanding memorandum signed by the US and Iranian presidents has entered into force, with Islamabad acting as mediator.
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced this on his X account.
“I am deeply honored to announce that the historic 'Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding' has been signed electronically today between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he wrote.
As a first step, Iran will immediately open the Strait of Hormuz, while the US will lift the naval blockade.
Sharif expressed gratitude to the US and Iranian leadership and praised mediation efforts by Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
