NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has confirmed that the United States will immediately begin reducing its military contingent in Europe. However, he expressed hope that Washington would do everything possible to protect Europe in the event of war.
According to Oxu.Az, TASS reported this based on Rutte's statement to journalists. "NATO's force configuration is just a planning tool. The US must operate on several fronts and does not want to disperse its resources. Therefore, they will somewhat reduce their presence in Europe. This was warned in advance. Yesterday at the G7 summit, they asked whether it would happen immediately. Yes, it will start immediately," Rutte told reporters before the meeting of defense ministers.
The Secretary General added that if war breaks out and Article 5 of the NATO Charter is triggered, all allies, including the US, will make maximum efforts to ensure the alliance's combat capability.
