The US needs to place 7,800 interceptor satellites into orbit to fully operate the 'Golden Dome' missile defense system.
The Congressional Budget Office estimates the total cost of the project at $1.2 trillion - six times more than Pentagon projections.
Creating, launching, and maintaining the space interceptors will cost $743 billion, accounting for 60% of the total budget.
Each satellite has a lifespan of about five years. To ensure continuous operation, the US must launch approximately 1,600 new units annually, each costing $22 million.
Congress assessments indicate the system may not fully counter massive missile attacks from major nuclear powers like Russia or China.
Bloomberg previously reported the final cost could reach $1.1 trillion, far exceeding President Trump's promised $175 billion.
Analysts have called the announced completion date of 2029 unrealistic.
