Armed soldiers in Uganda have besieged the offices of 'Nation Media Group' (NMG), the country's largest independent media holding, and halted the broadcast of its television channels.
The move was ordered by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of President Yoweri Museveni and commander of the armed forces.
According to Oxu.Az citing 'Daily Monitor', the operation began during the night.
Soldiers surrounded NMG's main office in Kampala's Namuwongo district, as well as the holding's offices at the 'Serena' hotel, where part of the editorial team is based.
Muhoozi wrote on social media platform 'X' that the TV channels will not resume operations without his permission.
The general had started threatening NMG weeks earlier after its media outlets covered the arrest of Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago and other sensitive topics.
