The US has agreed to temporarily lift sanctions on Iranian oil trade as part of a draft memorandum of understanding with Iran, according to the Tasnim news agency.

Washington will freeze the relevant sanctions during negotiations, the agency reported. It also noted the need to unfreeze a portion of Iran's assets as a first step toward an agreement.

Once the document is signed, the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz will depend on the US fulfilling its obligations under the memorandum, the report added.

According to Tasnim, the draft agreement does not call for restoring the strait to its pre-war state but mentions the possibility of "returning the number of passing ships to pre-war levels within 30 days."
