The United States will conduct a test launch of an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile over the Pacific Ocean on May 20.
According to Oxu.Az, this information was released by the US Air Force.
"The primary purpose of the test launch program is to verify and validate the accuracy, readiness, and effectiveness of weapon systems," the statement said.
It was also noted that the test has been planned for a long time and is not related to any ongoing global events.
The launch will take place from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California toward the US Pacific missile range near Kwajalein Atoll (Marshall Islands). The missile's flight distance will be approximately 6,800 kilometers.
With an operational range of 12,000 kilometers, the Minuteman III is the only land-based intercontinental ballistic missile in the US strategic nuclear arsenal. Currently, the US has 400 such missiles.
