Ukrainian drones struck a tanker at Russia’s port of Taganrog and hit an oil depot in the southern city of Armavir overnight, regional authorities said on Saturday.
Rostov region Governor Yury Slyusar said fires aboard the tanker and at the port of Taganrog had been extinguished and that no oil spill had been reported. Two people were injured in the attack, he said.
Taganrog, a port city on the Sea of Azov with a population of about 240,000, has been under a local state of emergency since May 27. Mayor Svetlana Kambulova said the emergency measures have been extended.
In the neighboring Krasnodar region, authorities said a fire at an oil depot in the industrial zone of Armavir had been brought under control. No injuries were reported.
The attacks are the latest in a series of Ukrainian drone strikes targeting Russian energy and logistics infrastructure, which have periodically disrupted operations at refineries, fuel storage facilities, and ports during the conflict.
Slyusar said nearly 50 drones were downed across the Rostov region overnight. The province borders Ukraine’s Donbas region, where some of the heaviest fighting in the war continues.
Outside Taganrog, only minor damage was reported, according to local authorities.
Neither the extent of damage to the tanker nor the potential impact on fuel shipments was immediately clear.
Russia and Ukraine have stepped up long-range drone attacks in recent months, with energy infrastructure remaining a frequent target for both sides.
The strikes come as markets continue to monitor developments in the region for potential implications on energy supplies, transportation networks, and commodity flows.
There was no immediate comment from Ukrainian officials regarding the reported attacks.
The latest incidents follow a series of drone operations targeting oil depots, refineries, and fuel storage sites across southern Russia, underscoring the continued vulnerability of energy infrastructure to cross-border attacks.
