Cesar Azpilicueta, defender of Sevilla FC, has announced his retirement from professional football.
The 36-year-old made the announcement on his social media accounts.
He stated that this season will be his last as a professional player:
"Today I want to share that this season will be the last of my professional career. After living my dream for many years, I feel it's time to start a new chapter in my life.
Even though I have prepared for this moment, writing this letter was not easy. Over 20 seasons, many people have played a great role in my career.
When I started chasing after a ball with my schoolmates as a child in Pamplona, I could never have imagined that such an incredible journey awaited me. I am grateful for every moment: the victories, the tough losses, the challenges, and most importantly, the people I met and the friendships I made along the way.
I thank all my teammates, coaches, and staff at the clubs I represented: Osasuna, Olympique Marseille, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and Sevilla, as well as the opportunity to represent my country on the biggest stages. Every moment was precious to me."
It is worth recalling that the player spent a long time at Chelsea in England, winning the Premier League twice and the UEFA Champions League once.
