Iranian authorities have ordered the pardon of at least 850 prisoners convicted of minor crimes during the farewell ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
According to Oxu.Az citing the Tasnim agency, Seyed Asadollah Joulai, head of the Board of Trustees of the People's Headquarters for Compensation Payments, stated:
"A special meeting was held on Sunday with representatives of state and public institutions to support the release of 850 prisoners convicted of unintentional crimes. Cases from all 31 provinces were reviewed. As a result, it was decided to release 520 people imprisoned for financial obligations, as well as 330 convicted in cases related to marriage contracts and alimony payments."
The farewell ceremony for Ali Khamenei will begin on July 3 in Tehran. High-level delegations from at least 30 countries will attend. From July 4 to 5, his body will lie in state at the Mosalla complex in Tehran. On July 6, a funeral procession will be held through the central streets of the capital. The body will then be taken to Qom. The burial is planned for July 9 in Mashhad.
