Valeriy Zaluzhny, Ukraine's ambassador to the UK and former Commander-in-Chief, has informed President Zelensky that he intends to run for president if elections are held.
According to Ukrainska Pravda, citing sources, Zelensky asked Zaluzhny whether he would run in the upcoming fall elections. Zaluzhny answered positively.
Zaluzhny stated that he never wanted to be a politician, but cannot ignore the trust placed in him by many people.
Recent polls show Zaluzhny's approval rating surpassing Zelensky's. The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology reports that 73% of Ukrainians trust Zaluzhny, compared to 61% for Zelensky.
