Israel's military announced that it killed Izz al-Din al-Haddad, a commander of the Hamas armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, in an airstrike on Gaza City.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) identified al-Haddad as one of the organizers of the October 7 attacks.
According to the IDF, al-Haddad was involved in rebuilding Hamas's military capabilities and planning new attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians.
He also played a key role in the system overseeing Israeli hostages held by Hamas, reportedly using them as human shields for his own safety.
Al-Haddad was one of the longest-serving commanders in Hamas, having joined the organization in its early years.
