Some Russian media and political circles have recently shown a more open approach towards Azerbaijan, according to political commentator Ramiz Aliyev.
In an interview with Oxu.Az, Aliyev commented on materials from the "Tsargrad" Telegram channel.
He stated that they seem unable to digest Azerbaijan's recent successes, the new political reality in the region, and the peaceful environment.
"Particularly in resources like 'Tsargrad', certain ideological and informational circles in Moscow still try to evaluate the South Caucasus not through the prism of the changed political reality, but in the context of old geopolitical influence mechanisms," he noted.
This contradicts the new security architecture forming in the region. Azerbaijan's historic victory in the 2020 Patriotic War and the full restoration of its sovereignty in 2023 resolved the Karabakh issue within international law.
The Armenian leadership has officially recognized Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. In such conditions, attempts to turn the Karabakh topic back into a tool of information manipulation do not align with regional realities.
The expert noted that this approach represents a political-ideological line directed against the peace and normalization process in the region.
"The most dangerous point is that some circles try to keep an internationally legally closed issue as a future means of influence," he emphasized.
President Ilham Aliyev's policy in the post-conflict period is pragmatic, based on international law, and balanced. The goal is to form sustainable peace and a security system.
Aliyev added that the prospect of opening the Zangezur corridor is a key element of the new cooperation environment in the region. This project will increase the geoeconomic importance of the South Caucasus.
"Azerbaijan is neither a supporter of confrontation nor interested in artificial tensions. On the contrary, it seeks to create a stable, open, and cooperation-based geopolitical space," the political scientist stated.
Some Russian circles' approach to the post-Soviet space with old imperial thinking is no longer accepted by regional countries.
