A new crisis is hitting the automotive market: Nissan and Toyota have imposed limits on the supply of synthetic engine oils.
According to Carscoops, the lubricant crisis is escalating daily.
Nissan is normalizing the supply of 5W-30 and 0W-20 oils, with 5W-30 dropping 70% and 0W-20 dropping 55% compared to last year.
Toyota has warned dealers about potential shortages of 0W-8 and 0W-16 oils, recommending alternative options.
About half of Group III base oils used in synthetic oil production are imported into the US. The Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association predicts depletion of Group III base oils from the Persian Gulf by June, with the deficit possibly lasting until mid-2027.
