The US Senate has passed a bill limiting President Donald Trump's military powers.
According to Oxu.Az citing CNN, the adopted document requires the US leader to coordinate any military action with Congress.
50 senators voted in favor, 47 against. The majority of Democrats and four Republicans supported the bill, while most Republicans and one Democrat opposed it. Seven previous attempts to pass the bill had failed. The bill was first introduced in 2025 after US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
A day earlier, Trump stated that Washington had postponed a planned strike on Iran scheduled for May 19. He said that leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE requested this, believing negotiations with Tehran could lead to an agreement. However, Trump ordered the Pentagon to remain fully prepared for a large-scale attack if no deal is reached.
