An explosion occurred on the COLVEN-02 drilling rig at the Quafita oil field in Venezuela's Apure state, owned by state oil company PDVSA.
At least eight workers were injured, six of them suffering second and third-degree burns.
Due to the severity of injuries and limited medical facilities in the area, emergency assistance was provided by Colombian rescue services. The wounded were transferred across the border to medical facilities in Araquita municipality, Arauca department, Colombia.
PDVSA has not yet issued an official statement on the cause of the accident. Local residents attribute the explosion to severe equipment wear and non-compliance with safety regulations.
