At least 26 people drowned while swimming in water bodies in Germany during the intense heatwave last weekend.
Oxu.Az reports that these statistics were released by the German Life Saving Society (DLRG).
All victims were adult men and teenage boys. The DLRG list also includes missing persons whose identities are known but search efforts have been fruitless. According to the report, eight more people who faced danger while swimming in various water bodies were admitted to intensive care units.
On June 28, the German Meteorological Service (DWD) officially recorded another temperature record - in the Kossen region of Brandenburg on the German-Polish border, the air heated up to 41.7 degrees Celsius. Extreme heat continued throughout the country all last week and only began to subside on Monday.
