US President Donald Trump has supported an initiative to give American citizens a portion of shares in artificial intelligence (AI) companies.
According to Oxu.Az, this was reported by the Financial Times.
The idea, previously mainly voiced in left-wing political circles, gained broader discussion after Senator Bernie Sanders proposed a 50% tax on AI laboratories.
In April, OpenAI officially proposed the creation of a "Public Welfare Fund." Under the initiative, AI companies would transfer a portion of their shares to the fund, with the proceeds distributed among US citizens.
Under the new model, shares would be owned directly by citizens, not the government.
The system is somewhat similar to Alaska's oil fund model, where state residents have received annual payments from the oil revenue fund since 1982.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has also shown interest in the initiative.
It was reported that leaders of leading US AI companies will meet at the White House next week to discuss the matter.
