The UK has broken its May temperature record. Heathrow Airport and Kew Gardens hit 35°C.
The previous record from May 29, 1944, was broken for the second day in a row. London reached 34.8°C yesterday, two degrees higher than the 82-year-old record.
Forecasts show temperatures will drop slightly from Wednesday but remain around 30°C.
Neighboring Ireland also set a record: Shannon Airport hit 28.6°C on May 25, beating the 1997 record of 28.4°C.
Many Britons are heading to beaches to cool off. However, meteorologists warn that the sea is still cold: 9°C off Scotland and 13°C in southeast England.
For context, the UK's all-time heat record is 40.3°C, set in Coningsby on July 19, 2022.
