A U.S. judge in Florida has ordered a review of the settlement between the Justice Department and President Donald Trump in his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS. The agreement has faced heavy criticism.
Trump sued his own government over alleged mishandling of his tax records, which led to media leaks. The proposed deal creates a nearly $1.8 billion fund to compensate victims of political "weaponization."
Judge Kathleen Williams gave Trump's lawyers until June 12 to respond to a motion by 35 retired federal judges, who claim the settlement is "a product of collusion." The judge may reopen the case.
Separately, a Virginia judge temporarily blocked the creation of the "Anti-Weaponization Fund," which had been criticized as a "slush fund" for January 6 rioters.
