The Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences has discovered new archaeological sites in Agdara and Agdam regions.
During archaeological monitoring near the village of Canyataq in Agdara, a Neolithic settlement was investigated on the territory of the Demirli Ore Processing Complex.
The excavation revealed rich pottery samples and numerous osteological remains from the Neolithic period.
It is believed that Canyataq was a camp for ochre extraction. Many large stone tool fragments and ochre pieces confirm this hypothesis.
A Muslim cemetery was also found in the same area. It was destroyed by Armenian vandals during the occupation, and a road was built on its site.
Remains of medieval buildings and pottery were discovered. Glazed ceramics date back to the 11th-15th centuries.
Near the village of Goytapa in Agdam, a tomb dating to 1343 AH (1924 AD) was recorded in the Eyvazkhanbeyli cemetery.
The tomb has a hexagonal plan, a rare architectural form in Azerbaijan's medieval architecture.
