Diabetes does not appear suddenly. Bad habits gradually disrupt glucose metabolism, especially leading to type 2 diabetes.
Russian doctor Alexander Kalyuzhin told Lenta.ru that the main mechanism is insulin resistance.
Excessive consumption of high-calorie foods, sugary drinks, and refined carbs overloads the pancreas. Over time, tissues lose sensitivity to insulin.
Physical inactivity also increases risk. Muscles actively use glucose, so lack of movement weakens this physiological mechanism.
Chronic insomnia, constant stress, smoking, excessive alcohol, and ignoring weight gain (especially waist circumference) are additional risk factors.
Diabetes is usually caused not by a single habit but by a lifestyle with excess energy intake, low muscle activity, and prolonged overloading of regulatory systems.
