Archaeologists have announced the discovery of the biblical city of Bethsaida.

Led by Steven Notley, the team excavated the El-Araj site in Israel.

Findings include a lost church and the house of Saint Peter.

The temple matches historical descriptions of where Jesus performed miracles.

According to the Bible, Jesus healed a blind man and fed 5,000 people here.

The city is also the hometown of apostles Andrew, Peter, and Philip.

A large Byzantine basilica was uncovered, believed to be the Church of the Apostles.

Excavators found fishing tools and an inscription calling Peter "chief of the apostles."

Under the church, remains of an older structure match Bishop Willibald's records.

Notley said: "This is the most convincing evidence of Peter's connection to the basilica."
