From 2020 to 2026, 222,000 square meters of land were cleared of mines in Kalbajar, Azerbaijan.

The special representative of the Azerbaijani President, Bashir Hajiyev, stated that Kalbajar district is one of the most mine-contaminated areas.

Speaking at an event held within the WUF13 framework at the Azerbaijan pavilion, he said: “In the initial phase of reconstruction and construction, the most important step was mine clearance and neutralization of unexploded ordnance.”

Hajiyev noted: “Making areas safe is crucial for establishing new settlements and ensuring the safe return of people under the Great Return program. From 2020 to 2026, 222,000 square meters of land were cleared of mines in Kalbajar. During this period, several mine explosions occurred, causing various injuries.”
