Armenia's government will independently reconstruct railway lines to Turkey and Azerbaijan as part of the "Trump route" project.
Oxu.Az reports, citing Kommersant, that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a meeting with voters.
Previously, Armenian authorities had appealed to Russia for road restoration.
"Work on the Turkish side has already begun, and the railway will be opened. We will also start reconstruction of the Yerask junction. The Armenian government will undertake this," Pashinyan said.
According to him, Yerevan will independently invest funds despite the railway concession agreement with Russian Railways (RZD) subsidiary.
Pashinyan also noted that the railway from Akhalkalaki, Georgia to Kars, Turkey has been opened for import and export.
"I thank our partners from Turkey and Georgia," Pashinyan said.
In February 2008, Armenia signed a concession agreement to transfer management of its railway transport system to South Caucasus Railway, a subsidiary of RZD. The agreement is for 30 years with an option to extend for 10 more.
In December 2025, Pashinyan requested Russia to quickly restore railway sections to borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan. These sections are considered vital for the joint US "Trump route" transport project.
In early March, Pashinyan said he discussed transferring railway management to another country like Kazakhstan, UAE, or Qatar with Russia. Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin stated Moscow did not hold such talks.
