The Milli Majlis Temporary Commission on Countering Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats has demanded that CNN prove its unfounded allegations against Azerbaijan.
According to Oxu.Az, the commission issued a statement on this matter.
The statement noted that on June 5, 2026, CNN published an article titled "Israel Sent Troops to Azerbaijan as Part of Secret Regional Network During Iran War," citing unnamed sources and engaging in information provocation against Azerbaijan.
"The commission declares that this information was disseminated with the aim of harming the peace process in the Middle East, as well as Azerbaijan's national interests and international reputation, and is part of a disinformation campaign.
First of all, it should be noted that this is not the first time CNN and similar media outlets have conducted targeted information campaigns against Azerbaijan on the eve of important diplomatic and political events, global international forums, or processes.
Monitoring by the commission revealed that immediately after the article was shared, due to the tactic and process of 'opportunistic amplification,' this anti-Azerbaijani narrative spread rapidly across most influential media outlets worldwide, as well as on social media platforms such as X, Threads, Facebook, and Telegram, turning into a campaign.
The fact that the article's authors ultimately turned to a person known for their persistent anti-Azerbaijani stance, who previously worked in media projects funded by the Soros Foundation, gives grounds to assume the source of the issue.
As repeatedly stated by our relevant state bodies, there are no military forces (troops) or bases of any foreign state in our country, and it is impossible to conduct any unfriendly activities against third states from the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Commission on Countering Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats calls on CNN to issue a statement on the baselessness of this article or to present facts to the public that would prove its allegations.
Otherwise, by disseminating materials with wide international reach based on unverified and anonymous sources, CNN will once again confirm its role as a tool in information operations, fake narratives, and disinformation campaigns, which are important components of hybrid threats," the statement of the Milli Majlis Temporary Commission on Countering Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats emphasized.
