On June 23, at the 21st meeting of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of the Child in New York, Azerbaijan's candidate Farid Adilov was elected to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) for 2027-2031.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, candidates from 16 countries competed for 9 vacant seats. Adilov, a PhD student at Essex University, won in the first round with 130 votes.
This is the first time a citizen of Azerbaijan will serve on the committee. The CRC is a treaty body of 18 independent experts monitoring the implementation of the 1989 Convention.
