Republican voters in Kentucky have nominated Andy Barr as their candidate for the U.S. Senate seat held by Mitch McConnell for 40 years.

Barr, currently a House representative for Kentucky's 6th district, will face the Democratic nominee in November.

McConnell, 84, is a powerful Republican leader who served as Senate Majority Leader from 2015 to 2021.
