British Minister of State for Defence Lord Vernon Coaker stated that Azerbaijan is a vital partner for the UK in security and diplomacy.
Speaking at an official reception marking Azerbaijan's 108th Independence Day in London, Lord Coaker highlighted the growing potential of bilateral partnership: "I am proud that the British government is elevating relations with Azerbaijan to a strategic partnership. This will enable broader cooperation in defence, security, trade, investment, economic growth, innovation, and education."
The minister emphasized the importance of friends and allies in an increasingly uncertain world: "Azerbaijan is a crucial partner for the UK in security and diplomacy."
Lord Coaker praised Azerbaijan's achievements and President Ilham Aliyev's efforts for sustainable peace in the region. He fondly recalled his visit to Azerbaijan last December, expressing admiration for Baku's blend of ancient and modern architecture, as well as the warmth and hospitality of the Azerbaijani people.
Lord Coaker is also a member of the House of Lords. His high-level representation at the event underscores the ascending trajectory of bilateral relations.
