The results of the election in Armenia once again showed that interest in peace and stability in the country is increasing. One of the main factors influencing this outcome is the new realities emerging in the region.
These words were stated by MP Aydin Huseynov in an interview with Oxu.Az.
He noted that Azerbaijan's restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as its military, political and diplomatic successes, have created a different situation in the region:
"These changes have pushed Armenian political circles and society to a more realistic approach. As a result, peace, recognition of borders and establishment of normal relations with neighbors have come to the forefront. Despite being the victorious side after the 44-day war, Azerbaijan immediately proposed starting peace negotiations. For this purpose, basic principles were put forward to normalize relations between the parties. Azerbaijan's position and the policy of President Ilham Aliyev also played an important role in advancing the Armenian government's peace agenda. The negotiations and meetings held in recent years have contributed to increasing trust between the parties. Especially after the meetings held in Washington, a number of issues aimed at normalizing relations between the two countries began to be discussed more. This includes ensuring security and stability on the border, restoring transport and communication links, expanding regional trade opportunities and developing transit shipments."
"In addition, economic cooperation opportunities, prospects in the field of energy security, meetings of civil society representatives and promotion of mutual visits are also considered important elements of the peace process. At the same time, a reduction in mutual accusations and aggressive rhetoric can help create an atmosphere of trust in the region. This is one of the important conditions for long-term peace and cooperation.
Overall, the election result can be assessed as one of the factors showing that Armenian society is taking into account the new realities in the region and is beginning to better understand that peace with Azerbaijan has no alternative," the MP emphasized.
