Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has expressed condolences to Azerbaijan following the tragic deaths of Azerbaijani sailors in the Sea of Azov.
According to Oxu.Az citing Report, the message was addressed to Azerbaijan's Ambassador to the UK, Elin Suleymanov. "I learned with deep sorrow that on June 5, 2026, attacks on the cargo ships 'Natra' and 'Zirkon' in the Sea of Azov resulted in tragic casualties," the letter stated.
The incident claimed the lives of four Azerbaijani sailors, while four others were injured. "On behalf of all IMO members, the Secretariat, and myself, I offer my deepest condolences to the government and people of Azerbaijan," Dominguez wrote.
He reaffirmed IMO's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all seafarers and supporting international efforts for safe navigation. "Continued cooperation among member states and maritime industry stakeholders is crucial to prevent such tragedies," he emphasized.
