President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Jasser, stated that Baku and Azerbaijan as a whole are a significant example of development impulse in the region.
Speaking at the 51st Annual Meeting of the IsDB Group during a fireside chat, he recalled his family roots in the caravan trade tradition and how visiting Baku brought back memories of this heritage.
Al-Jasser noted that being in a caravanserai last night made him think about his ancestors. Such historical lifestyles promote cultural rapprochement and a better understanding of efforts to lift people out of poverty.
The IsDB President emphasized his long-standing ties with Baku. As Executive Director at the IMF, he participated in Azerbaijan's membership process and supported its integration into international financial institutions at the request of the Saudi government.
He noted the city's visible transformation: "The Soviet era is behind us, and development now continues under the people's own governance for future generations."
