The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Spain organized an official reception in Madrid to mark May 28 - Independence Day.
Guests included Luis Fonseca Sánchez, Director General of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, senior diplomats, parliament members, senators, diplomatic corps, businessmen, and members of the Azerbaijani community.
The event began with national anthems. Ambassador Ramiz Hasanov highlighted the historical significance of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic's 108th anniversary.
He noted achievements since independence restoration, development under Heydar Aliyev and Ilham Aliyev, and Azerbaijan's role in regional stability.
The ambassador also addressed normalization with Armenia and President Ilham Aliyev receiving the "Gernika for Peace and Reconciliation" award.
Spanish representative Luis Fonseca Sánchez congratulated Azerbaijan. A cultural program featured tar player Ibrahim Babayev and flamenco dancer Cristina Kazorla.
Azerbaijani cuisine was served, and the Cibeles Fountain was lit in Azerbaijani flag colors.
