Andrew Lumis, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon, stated that Azerbaijan is a geostrategic partner. He made the remarks at a reception dedicated to Independence Day and Armed Forces Day.

Lumis noted that Azerbaijan is located in a complex region and maintains strong ties with both Turkey and Israel. For this reason, the US considers Azerbaijan a geostrategic partner.

The Pentagon official emphasized that the US and Azerbaijan signed the Strategic Partnership Charter. Defense ties are historic and significant.

"For over 20 years, Azerbaijan has fought alongside the US. Azerbaijan was one of the last countries to leave Afghanistan. We are pleased with Azerbaijan's participation in professional military education courses and regional exercises. The relationships between our soldiers strengthen these ties. We are building a lasting foundation for stability and look forward to continuing this cooperation and friendship. I am confident our exceptional partnership will grow stronger in the years ahead," he added.
