The conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping over tea is reported to have been tense.

This was revealed in a video from Baku TV, bringing renewed attention to the moment just before Putin's visit to Beijing.

The Russian president's aide on international affairs had previously stated that in Vladivostok, Putin and Xi would discuss international issues such as Ukraine, Iran, and relations with the United States over tea. The meeting took place, but the tea-table conversation appears to have been quite tense.

Adding a new twist, Donald Trump's visit to China before Putin's is also under scrutiny. According to the Financial Times, Xi Jinping told Trump in Beijing that Putin would eventually regret invading Ukraine.
