The recent election process in Armenia has become one of the most discussed events in the region. It is not just about citizens' right to choose. This election is effectively the next stage of the influence struggle between the West and Russia.
Political scientist Shabnam Hasanova told Oxu.Az that the election campaign was marked by distortion of historical facts, populist speeches, and political manipulations. Instead of discussing socio-economic problems, candidates once again focused on the Azerbaijan factor.
She noted that Armenia's political elite still struggles to form an independent vision for the future. Voting day was marred by violations. Armenia's Interior Ministry reported numerous complaints and the detention of 6 people.
Hasanova emphasized that the silence of European institutions on these violations is striking. Democratic principles are applied selectively. International missions must conduct an objective investigation.
