A newborn's weight may influence their future intelligence. Research shows that among twins, the heavier baby tends to score higher on IQ tests later.
According to Oxu.Az, the study was published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. Researchers analyzed data from 2,098 same-sex twin pairs.
Birth weight and head circumference were normalized using international growth charts. This allowed assessment of how much each child deviated from the norm for their gestational age.
At age 12, twins who were heavier at birth performed significantly better on non-verbal intelligence tests.
Researchers emphasize the importance of nutrition and medical care during pregnancy. Early developmental conditions in the womb can create long-lasting cognitive advantages.
