France's National Public Health Agency has recorded over 1,000 deaths during record heat.
According to AFP, most victims were over 65 years old.
The agency said the count will continue as data from nursing homes arrives.
The heatwave starting June 20 is the most intense in European history. Health Minister Stephanie Rist warned that complications can persist up to 10 days after temperatures drop.
The hot air mass is moving east. While most of France sees cooler temperatures, warnings remain in the northeast.
