The Republican Blood Bank of the Ministry of Health has aligned immunohematological tests with international standards. The safety of donors and recipients directly depends on these standards.
Laboratory doctor Malak Babayeva stated on "Saglam Radio" that the main tests include blood group determination, antibody screening, and crossmatch tests.
Donor blood is tested for ABO, RhD, and weak D. Recipients undergo extended phenotyping when necessary.
Antibody screening detects clinically significant erythrocyte antibodies. Positive results lead to extended identification.
The crossmatch test compares donor erythrocytes with recipient serum.
The Republican Blood Bank follows WHO, AABB, and ISBT standards. Recent improvements include gel card technology and automation.
