A devastating earthquake in Venezuela has been rated as the strongest seismic event in the country since 1900.
According to Oxu.Az, citing archival data from the U.S. Geological Survey, The New York Times reported the information.
The 1900 earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7. Since modern measurement technology was lacking, the power was estimated based on damage reports. The quake in Caracas 126 years ago killed 21 people and injured 50. Approximately 300 homes collapsed, forcing many to live in tents.
The newspaper noted that church spires broke, and government and university buildings were damaged.
