21 officers from the London police unit responsible for protecting the royal family have been suspended from duty.
The reason: falling asleep on duty or leaving their posts without authorization.
According to a statement from Scotland Yard, cited by BBC and CNN, the scandal came to light in mid-May.
The Sun newspaper had previously reported that nearly 30 police officers were under investigation for failing to perform their duties properly.
The police department confirmed disciplinary action against 23 officers. 21 were suspended, and 2 were temporarily removed from royal protection duties.
Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
