White House officials are pushing for a new $250 banknote featuring Donald Trump's portrait. If successful, Trump would be the first person in 150 years to appear on US currency while alive.
According to The Washington Post, the proposal comes from Treasurer Brendon Beach and his advisor Mike Braun. They are pressuring the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to create the note. A mock-up shows Trump's face at the center, alongside the signatures of the president and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
British artist Ian Alexander confirmed creating mock-ups and discussed design changes with Trump, including adding US flag colors and the 250th anniversary logo. No living person has appeared on US currency since 1866.
A bill allowing Trump's portrait has been in Congress since 2025. However, the bureau says production could take years. The Treasury also plans to feature Trump's signature on commemorative dollars for the 250th anniversary.
