About 300 seal carcasses have been discovered in Kazakhstan's Mangystau region since April 17. In the last two days, 37 more dead seals were found near the Karajanbas and Buzachi oil fields.

Ecologists report an increasing number of dead seals. Daniyar Akimjanov, head of the regional branch of the Republican Fisheries and Aquaculture Association, said the actual number may exceed 300.

The mass death of seals is attributed to negative changes in the marine ecosystem.
