Extreme heat is expected to intensify further in Spain and Portugal towards the end of the week. In some regions of Portugal, temperatures could reach 40 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists also expect temperatures significantly above the May climate norm in France, Belgium, and the UK in the coming days. France's National Meteorological Service has declared a high alert level in 18 departments, including Paris, due to the heatwave from May 25.

British meteorologists recorded the highest temperature for May this year on May 25. In London and surrounding areas, the temperature rose to 34 degrees Celsius.
