Australian authorities have seized over 100,000 live exotic cockroaches valued at $200,000. The insects were found during a security operation.
According to The Guardian, the haul included Madagascar hissing cockroaches, one of the largest species in the world.
It is believed the cockroaches were intended for trade, possibly as feed for reptiles. This is the largest seizure of illegal exotic invertebrates in Australia.
Importing exotic cockroaches is banned in the country, as they can spread diseases and harm local wildlife and agriculture.
