Law enforcement authorities in St. Petersburg, Russia have detained Yusif Aliyev, known as a "thief in law".

According to the Russian Interior Ministry cited by Kommersant, the 54-year-old had been on the international wanted list since 2008.

He is accused of several serious crimes, including the murder of two or more people. He also faces charges of holding the highest position in the criminal hierarchy.

Yusif Aliyev was detained on the morning of June 9. The charge carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison.

It is noted that in March 2009, Aliyev was detained during an operation at a restaurant in Moscow but was released shortly after.
