Baku-born chess champion put on int’l wanted list in Russia

Russian investigative authorities have put Garry Kasparov, the former world chess champion born in Baku, on an international wanted list.

He is accused of justifying terrorism and twice violating foreign agent rules.

A Moscow court ordered his arrest in absentia on December 22, 2025, effective if he is extradited or detained in Russia.
