French billionaire Pierre-Edouard Stérin is trying to change France's inheritance laws so that his five children will not receive a single cent of his 1.4 billion euro fortune.
According to Oxu.Az, the 52-year-old businessman, who made his fortune through the company 'Smartbox', lives in Belgium. During a speech in the French Senate, he stated that inheritance spoils children.
"I do not want to destroy my children. I have no intention of giving them a single cent. True freedom is starting life from zero," he said.
However, French law does not allow disinheriting children. Under the Napoleonic Code, if a person has three or more children, at least 75% of the wealth must automatically go to them.
Stérin views this law as a restriction of personal freedom and wants full control over his money, for example, to donate it all to charity.
