Birmingham, UK, has elected its first mayor from the Muslim community.
According to RBK, the city council announced the election of Zaker Choudhry to the position.
Choudhry, of Pakistani origin, arrived in Birmingham in 1969 at the age of 14. He has worked in local government for many years.
He was elected to the city council in 2006 and has also served in police and health oversight bodies.
