Two new F-35 fighter jets of the British Royal Air Force have been stranded on Terceira Island in the Atlantic Ocean due to technical issues. The aircraft were brand new, making their first flight from the factory.
According to The Telegraph, citing military sources, the two RAF jets have been stuck on the island for two months after sudden technical failures. The newspaper reports that the jets were manufactured by Lockheed Martin in the US and encountered problems while being delivered from a Texas factory to a British base.
Under the contract, London is to purchase a total of 48 fifth-generation fighter jets.
