Bucharest's mayor, Ciprian Chicu, has been summoned by Romania's National Anticorruption Directorate for questioning on corruption charges.
According to Agerpres, Chicu is accused of taking bribes in exchange for building permits.
He refused to speak to journalists upon entering the agency's building.
Sources confirmed that Chicu has been officially named a suspect.
Allegedly, while serving as mayor of District 6, he accepted money from a businessman for a building permit and used the funds for his 2025 election campaign.
